In case you've lost track, we were living on piano and voice lessons, piano tuning, teaching grade school music, and farming in the summers. We didn't have enough income yet, so I began playing French horn in the city band and directing the choruses in the Catholic high school in Fort Dodge.
On the Fourth of July, we had to get to the hospital quickly. Another surprise, a baby girl, was on the way and not waiting for anyone. We picked up a police escort to get us across the Fourth-of-July parade-route, and the doctor got there just in time in his stocking feet. Another child, how is that possible? I guess changing doctors didn't help, and that makes three miracles since the first doctor said we couldn't have any more children.
My wife was ready to be canonized as a saint, but canonization has one catch: You have to be dead.
